How Birdy found out she had cancer

Rate this Entry
I'm going to try and blog here, so that the entire world doesn't read it.

This is the story of how Birdy found out she had cancer:

Birdy worked as a waitress. Her left knee had been bothering her for several months, but like most women, she just blew it off. "Oh, it's because I'm a server and I strained it."

Then she became pregnant about 20 minutes after moving in with her boyfriend. She kept blowing off her knee pain "oh, it's because we just moved ... it's because I'm pregnant ... etc."

And really, who expects bone cancer at 28?

Late last January, she fell in a slippery parking lot. It hurt so badly she couldn't put any weight on her leg at all. She was taken by ambulance to the emergency room where they nearly crushed her with lead aprons and took an Xray.

Good news - no break or torn ligaments.
Bad news - bone tumor - get thee to a bone specialist NOW!

So, I took her to see the specialist. They took another Xray.

I did not like the look on the specialist's face.

They did an MRI and biopsy. I read that most bone tumors are not malignant. I had lots of hope.

The operative word is "most." Birdy was diagnosed with bone cancer.

28 years old and 19 weeks pregnant.

I believe things happen for a reason, that there is some lesson to be learned. For the life of me, I can't figure out what it is right now.
