It's not the kids, it's the parents. I'm a piano teacher and am shocked at how some of these kids talk to their parents, WHO SAY NOTHING! Well, this is MY house. I look at those kids and say, "Don't talk to your mother like that. Why do you think that's okay?" Or I'll say, "That's not how you ask for something. Try that again." Every last one of them backs down and does it again with manners. Then the mom says, "Thank you" to me. I haven't been able to find the nerve yet to tell them not to thank me, but to start training their children. They're raising (for lack of a better word) these little monsters. I love my students and they love me and they wouldn't THINK of trying those shenanigans with me. They know I have boundaries that are enforced!
